As part of 2008 Park(ing) Day in New York City and in collaboration with the Forum for Urban Design, this installation reappropriated a common street artifact, the traffic cone, into a critique of automobile congestion in our cities.

Theoretically, 88 cones would be needed to block off all the parking spaces on Mott Street for one block. Limited to one parking space for our installation, we symbolically collected all these cones into a singular suspended structure.

We wanted to invert the street cone both literally into a sun-shading canopy and symbolically as an object of possibilities rather than of denial.
